Finding Your Way

Emergency And Inpatient

When an individual who is already receiving other mental health services requires emergency mental health services, the individual’s service provider should be contacted for assistance. If this provider is unavailable to assist the individual in crisis, then other community emergency services (as listed below) are available for care. When an individual is not currently receiving mental health services, entry to psychiatric services can be done on an emergency basis. The agencies listed below provide screening and/or emergency services. Screening is the initial face-to-face process of determining the appropriateness of a person for a particular service. Emergency services include the clinical treatment provided in an emergency unit or by emergency unit staff to stabilize a person who is at risk due to a psychiatric crisis.

Alternative Crisis Centers (Adults)

ROCHESTER PSYCHIATRIC CENTER ALTERNATE LIVING RESIDENCE - 241-1642

The program provides a supportive setting where staff works with both the consumer and community providers to resolve a crisis situation. The maximum length of stay is 21 days.

SELF-HELP DROP-IN CENTER - 454-3530
Located at 539 South Avenue (on the #5 bus route), the Center is open seven days a week from 5 – 9:00 p.m. Support is provided on a walk-in, no appointment needed basis. No referral is required. No fees are charged to guests for service. Persons who themselves are successfully resolving mental health issues staff and volunteer with the program. They provide walk-in guests with person-to-person support, problem-solving assistance, and resource information. For our volunteers, the Self-Help Drop-In Center functions as a prevocational service where they receive additional personal support while gaining positive work habits helpful towards obtaining paid employment.

Warm Line Service - Those unable to attend in person can call the Center at 454-3530 during office hours (daily from 5 – 9:30 p.m.). A support team is available to talk with individuals.
