A Positive Attitude

A Positive Attitude

Anthony Slate has positively dealt with his visual impairment for his whole life. It has not hindered him in making strides in his life. Anthony started volunteering at the Mental Health Association’s Self Help Drop-In Support Service in February 2016. His PROS practitioner encouraged him to apply for the volunteer position. While working with the staff and guests, Anthony learned to listen better, take nothing personal and communicate more effectively.

The newly acquired skills helped Anthony to become an exceptional volunteer. He was also able to learn to cope with his anxiety. This lead to him becoming comfortable with asking for help when he needed it. Anthony also learned to accept that perfection is not a necessity to be a good worker. Anthony always has a positive attitude while volunteering. He is encouraging and welcoming in providing help to guests in any way he can. Alongside Anthony’s work at the SHDSS, he also volunteers at the Veterans Outreach Center along with many other organizations and works at ABVI’s call center part-time. His most recent accomplishment is accepting a position with an organization in Rochester as an Outreach Coordinator. From where Anthony was to the present, he has grown immensely. Anthony is a valued asset at the SHDSS and is constantly and positively future focused.
